Estell Warren prepared designs for the public realm of this major new urban quarter of Leeds.  The site is located on a former chemical works and is bisected by the River Aire.

A series of interconnected streets and spaces is proposed to connect the site and communities beyond to the river frontage, making the most of this significant natural asset.  Biodiversity, water management, recreation, active frontages and play are all built into the public realm.

The main square is bisected by the river and linked by a ‘bridge building’, spanning between the two halves of the space.  Ideas of inorganic and organic chemistry, reflecting earlier site use, are explored through varying the ratio of hard and soft elements in each half of the square.
