Emerging from the Remaking Barnsley SDF and Public Spaces Strategy this project is the first in an ambitious programme to lift the quality of public realm across the town centre. 

The practice has taken the design through concept, consultation and detailed design stages.  New, pedestrian friendly streets have been designed using high quality materials that are sympathetic to the surrounding architecture and the Conservation Area designation.  The scheme carves a series of spaces out of the highway network linking the Transport Interchange with the town centre.  The challenges in creating streets that work as places for people whilst allowing vehicle access have been met through innovative design, close liaison with the Highways Authority and public consultation.
