bull ring

Estell Warren was invited to prepare detailed proposals for the Bull Ring, Westmorland Street and The Springs in Wakefield City centre.  Combined, they form a principal component of the City of Wakefield’s emerging public realm and, as one of the first major ‘renaissance’ public realm projects to be delivered within the city, it is an exemplar project for future schemes to follow.

The street spaces form a key axis across the city and an important pedestrian link from the City centre to the new Markets development and proposed mixed use redevelopment of Trinity Walk.

The design was informed by the important historical context of the site, its Conservation Area status and the spectacular backdrop of Wakefield Cathedral.  A torus shaped water feature brings life and fun to the space and is proving hugely popular with children.
