Dalton Mills is an imposing former textile mill located close to the town centre of Keighley in West Yorkshire. Estell Warren was appointed as part of the design team to transform the mill for residential use.
A key aim of design proposals was to create a contemporary interpretation of previous building use and historic character. Landscape proposals responded to this by introducing a ‘weave’ of richly textured surface materials across the whole site, reinforced and punctuated with planting, sheltering structures and trees. A sequence of courtyards, roof gardens and greenspaces provides a range of relaxation opportunities for residents including access to adjoining riverside frontage. Biodiversity and water management are integral to the design.
